Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better
Most of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we should stay away from them. Sometimes, if the comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. There are some foods that really can improve your moods when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, try a few of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be really terrific at fighting back depression. Just see to it that you don’t throw away the yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, especially the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you improve your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Try to eat an egg and feel happier!
Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all helpful for raising your mood. This is possible since these foods are rich in magnesium which promotes serotonin production. Serotonin is called the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more serotonin you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein food source.
Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to be in a better mood. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all full of omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.
Grains can be good for driving away a terrible mood. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are terrific at helping you have a happier mood. These foods can help you feel full for longer also, which is a mood improver. Feeling hungry can actually make you feel awful! These grains can help your mood elevate as it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest these foods more quickly than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This helps improve your mental focus while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood also!
Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try some of these instead!
