Information on How to Improve Your Mood with Food

A lot of us believe that comfort foods are bad for us and that we need to keep away from them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. There are a number of foods that, when you consume them, could boost your mood. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional pick-me-up, try a few of these.

Eggs, you might be surprised to discover, are terrific at fighting depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the yolk. When you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Try eating an egg and cheer up!

Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin production. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more of it you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent if you are wanting to feel happier. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly elevate your mood.

Grains can be great for overcoming a terrible mood. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all great for helping you feel better. They can help you feel full for longer also, which is a mood improver. It’s not hard to feel a little bit off when you feel famished! These grains can help your mood elevate since it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your glucose levels which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You were just anticipating to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This helps better your mental focus while calming the rest of your body. You likely already knew how easy it is to become healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try these tips instead!
