Foods That Make You Happy
A lot of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we need to avoid them. Often, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be very nourishing and good for you. There are a number of foods that, when you consume them, could boost your mood. When you feel a little down and need an emotional pick-me-up, test out some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are great for helping you fight depression. Just make sure that you don’t get rid of the yolk. The egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to improve your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try consuming a few eggs to feel better!
Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is possible because these foods have a bunch of magnesium which promotes serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more you have of it, the more pleasant you will feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a fantastic protein source.
Cold water fish are excellent if you would like to feel happier. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all full of omega-3 fats and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you battle your depression.
It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually great for helping boost your happiness levels. These grains can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. Feeling hungry can be terrible! These grains can elevate your mood since it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. You digest them more quickly than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Green tea is really great for your mood. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while at the same loosening up the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to get healthy when you drink green tea. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to raise your moods also!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try a few of these instead!
