Foods That Can Make You Happy

Many of us have been taught to believe that comfort foods are terrible and are to be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be perfectly healthy and good for us to consume. There are some foods that, when you eat them, could boost your mood. If you feel a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly terrific at fighting back depression. Just be sure that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are high in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for raising your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Eat an egg and feel happier!

Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all good for raising your mood. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given time. The more of it you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are great if you would like to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all loaded with omega-3 and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly elevate your mood.

Grains can be excellent for driving away a terrible mood. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are great at helping you feel happier. They help you feel full too which can actually help to make your mood better. Feeling hungry can be awful! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not hard to digest. You digest these foods quicker than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is rich in a specific amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while at the same calming the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you feel better. Now you are aware that it helps you to elevate your moods also!

You can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are terrible for you so you can feel better! Try some of these instead!
