Foods That Can Make You Happy

Most of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are terrible and are to be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is candy or another junk food, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are some foods that, when you eat them, may improve your mood. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually terrific at beating back depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you raise your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Consume an egg and feel happier!

Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more of it in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a fantastic protein food source.

Cold water fish are great if you are wanting to be in a better mood. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all full of omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you battle your depression.

It’s not difficult to fight your bad mood when you consume grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel better. These grains fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods as well. Feeling starved can be awful! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Green tea is really great for your mood. You just knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You knew that green tea helps you feel better. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to lift your moods as well!

As you can see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try some of these tips instead.
